The Carolina Panthers will face the Washington Redskins in what’s sure to be a tough battle this weekend in Week 5 of the NFL’s regular season, and the Panthers have every reason to believe they’ll be able to tack up their first win of the season this Sunday when they take on the Skins. While it’s easy to look ahead to the future - the Panthers play the very average Redskins, Buccaneers and Bills in the next three weeks - some wary advice from various teammates is telling the Panthers to take things one day and one game at a time.
Chris Harris, a strong safety for Carolina who’s been out with injury for several weeks, gave his teammates some words of advice last week, saying, “I tell guys that I was in Chicago when we started out 1-3 and won eight straight and went 11-5 and had a first-round bye in the playoffs (in 2005). One and three is not the end of the world. It’s not where you want to be, but it’s definitely not the end of the world. I’ve experienced it and been through it, so I can testify that. It starts with one. You can’t look ahead, just focus on this one game and take it one game at a time.”
Similarly, quarterback Jake Delhomme had similar thoughts to getting past the Panthers’ current hump. “I’ll be honest with you: I know we play Washington; I think we play Tampa (Bay) after that and then I don’t have the slightest idea (after that). And that’s the truth. You’ve got to focus on one - and our one this week is to try and beat Washington.” Will they be able to pull off that first win this weekend? Stay tuned to find out!
