Jake Delhomme has become the scapegoat for the Carolina Panthers, and even while his own mediocre performances seem to be improving as the weeks continue, the team as a whole still hasn’t yet clicked this season, making it tough for outsiders to believe in Delhomme as a decent starting quarterback. Coach John Fox has stated time and again that the Panthers will continue to rely on Delhomme at the helm as starting QB this season, and his assurance was again a major news story on NFL.com and ESPN.com this week.
In an interview yesterday, Fox was again asked the status of Jake Delhomme and whether or not the quarterback would continue to start for the team, by which Fox replied, “I didn’t think that was a question, but if that needs to be clarified, yes with a capital Y.” Delhomme threw two interceptions in Monday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, and even though receiver Steve Smith took the blame for one of those interceptions, it’s still put Delhomme in the face of criticism. As Jake Delhomme continues to prove his critics wrong, backups A.J. Feeley and Matt Moore are still ready for anything, as No. 2 QB Josh McCown is out for the season.
