What to Do with Mark Jones

September 9, 2009

The Carolina Panthers have only a few days to scramble together a return man before facing off against Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday in the teams’ first game of the regular season, but are the Panthers still holding out for Mark Jones? The former Panther spent the preseason with the Tennessee Titans before being released last week due to a hamstring injury, and the injury also caused him to fail the physical he had with Carolina earlier this week, blocking him from signing back with the Panthers. Heading back to his offseason home in Nashville to rehab his injury, Jones told reporters that his hamstring injury isn’t serious, saying, “I’m not worried about it,” also saying it would only take “about another week” to recover from. Will the Carolina Panthers hold out for Mark Jones until he’s healed enough to play for the team this season?

It’s hard to tell as of now, but in the meantime the Panthers will likely start rookie Mike Goodson to return kickoffs, with both Kenny Moore and Captain Munnerlyn at their disposal, as well. Whatever the Panthers decide to do, it has to be fast, as the team plays its first regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. EST against the Eagles.
