Star running back Jonathan Stewart has been noticeably missing from the Carolina Panthers’ recent set of OTAs, and while he wasn’t the only player sitting the bench during practice, No. 28 confirmed suspicions yesterday and came out to the media that he’s been experiencing difficulties with an injury to his left Achilles’ tendon, thus contributing to his time away from the football field over the last several weeks. Determining the injury to be mild, Stewart said his aggravated tendon probably stems from favoring his left foot after having toe surgery last year during the offseason. The pain in his Achilles’ tendon started in February during offseason conditioning, but the running back is expected to be in full recovery for the Panthers’ training camp starting August 2.
Not one to be held down, Stewart has proven his resilience several times over, most recently last year after coming back from toe surgery to become one half of the explosive duo that has been hailed “Double Trouble,” that with RB DeAngelo Williams. “I don’t see why we should lower our expectations from last year,” Stewart recently said of what he expects for this season. “I think me and DeAngelo are capable of more.”
