Panthers to Tackle Giants in Televised Preseason Game

April 2, 2009

As the schedules start unraveling for the 2009 NFL season, anticipation starts mounting, and so it is for Panthers fans across the country who are waiting to see how the season will kick off this year. While the offseason fun has yet to begin (with the upcoming NFL Draft,) it has already been announced that the Carolina Panthers will start their preseason this fall with a televised game against the New York Giants. The Panthers will travel to Giants Stadium on August 17 in an attempt to take down the Giants at the Meadowlands, opening their preseason in a televised showdown.

Other preseason games have recently been announced, but details aren’t all worked out yet. The Panthers’ other preseason matchups will be at Miami and then home against the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, with the game against the Giants starting it all off for Carolina. The NFL preseason kicks off on August 9 when the Tennessee Titans face the Buffalo Bills, and you better expect the Panthers to be ready to take down Manning and the Giants soon thereafter when the two teams meet for the first time in ’09.

What Will Become of Jake Delhomme?

April 1, 2009

What are the Panthers to do about their starting quarterback, Jake Delhomme? While most of the fans love him (even despite a bad playoff performance last season), he’s still a huge sum of money against the Panthers salary cap. And we all know about the bad condition that the Panthers salary cap finds itself in these days. But would the Panthers really trade Jake?

Cat Scratch Reader’s Jaxon seems to think that the Panthers will extend Jake Delhomme’s contract at least to next year, but that the salary will have to be reduced to make room for other contracts. He quoted John Fox as having said that the Panthers want to make a commitment to Jake Delhomme. But does that mean extension?

Others seem to think that the Panthers will re-sign Delhomme for even more money- make a huge commitment to their star quarterback so that he doesn’t leave after the next season. What do you think the Panthers should do? Clearly these are tight times financially in Carolina, but do you want to risk losing your franchise QB to go the cheap route?
