Peppers Story Isn’t Over

April 30, 2009

We’ve been reporting on the Julius Peppers saga for months now, and it’s just as aggravating to Panthers fans as it probably is to Peppers himself that the defensive end still remains in Carolina. The free agency is old news, the NFL Draft is getting to be old news and yet Peppers still hasn’t been granted his wishes of being traded to another team in the league. With the Panthers’ minicamp coming up and preseason training starting to take form, it’s going to be very interesting to see how the Peppers deal works out, as reports are now actually considering that Julius Peppers will remain a Panther for another round of NFL action.

Because no teams have been willing to give the Panthers two first-round draft picks for Peppers, it appears as if Peppers’ best option for right now is to suck it up and go back to his team in Carolina for one more season. This would still give him his huge salary and let him prepare for free agency again next year, when he could likely score a better deal with another team. This doesn’t mean that Peppers will attend the team’s minicamp this weekend (as he most certainly won’t,) but in the meantime the Panthers have already started grooming his replacement - defensive end Everette Brown, who the team plucked from Florida State.
