Team Likes Connor

June 10, 2008

Lost in the shuffle of Carolina’s offseason was the third-round draft pick of Dan Connor.  The Panthers got some serious value when the Penn State Nittany Lions linebacker fell to them all the way in the third round.  He could have easily gone in the second round, but no one seemed to believe he fits their needs.  The Panthers certainly had a need at linebacker, having dealt with a shortage that began as a training camp headache and ended as one of the season’s glaring problems that had to be fixed in order to save a few people their jobs.

Again, I can’t say enough good things about the Panthers’ offseason thus far.  They had many challenges before them at the end of last season’s disappointing campaign.  However, they have risen above the fray to position themselves to compete in the NFC South.  They should almost certainly be a playoff team in 2008, and as the Giants proved last year, all you have to do is make the playoffs and get hot at the right time in the National Football Conference.  The Carolina Panthers fans should definitely be excited for next season.
