According to this article, Williams is fully willing to share the running back responsibilities with Johnathan Stewart. This has been a matter of some speculation since the draft, when the Panthers took a running back in the first round. Williams has of course played number 2 running back for the Panthers for years under DeShaun Foster. This year was to be his year to finally shine as a feature back.
Of course, now all of that may be in jeopardy, but I believe people are jumping the gun on this one. DeAngelo Williams is obviously the Panthers’ number 1 back, and they will bring Stewart along as they believe he is ready. So while Stewart will still certainly get a few carries to spell Williams, I don’t believe anyone should be worried about the veteran running back losing his spot or becoming unhappy just yet.
