Peppers Not Being Shopped

March 11, 2008

Lately there have been rampant rumors of a possibly Julius Peppers trade.  One of the more ridiculous stories had the Panthers trading Peppers to Minnesota for a running back.  That’s just ignorant, people.  Why would the Vikings unload a running back they will likely need as a plan B for their injury-prone ROY from 2007?  Adrian Peterson needs a second back.  Secondly, why would they trade him for a possibly past-his-prime Peppers?  It makes no sense. I’m not saying Peppers is definitely beyond his best football, but I am saying that after last year, he’s definitely got a “buyer beware” sticker slapped on him.

However, luckily, the local Carolina media is attempting to act as the voice of reason in all this, printing a story to let everyone know that the Carolina Panthers are not shopping Julius Peppers.  Why would they?  What in the world do Carolina fans expect to get for him?  The Panthers have had a very solid offseason, and I expect them to draft well and continue to make smart moves.  Why wouldn’t they want to at least keep Peppers for the first part of the season to see what they can get out of him?  There is no reason to trade Julius Peppers right now.
