Charlotte Observer Makes and Observation

January 7, 2008

This news story absolutely cracked me up.  It’s not easy to find a lot of great stories about the Carolina Panthers at the moment, mostly because this is the dead time after the regular season ends, before the postseason has finished, during which time almost nothing happens to any of the teams that are not presently in the postseason, other than your basic head coach firings.  Since it would appear that the Carolina Panthers will press forward at least one more year with John Fox at the helm, they haven’t even had a big coach firing story to keep the reporters busy.  So, apparently, the reporters are taking some time off.

Stan Olsen, a writer for the Observer, only thought the performance of Julius Peppers on the field of play this season warranted four whole lines of his writing.  I suppose perhaps he felt that he should give as much of himself to the article as Peppers gave of himself to the Panthers this season.  Peppers’ horrible play was well-documented all year.  The man finished with three sacks on the season.  He should be getting double-digit sacks every year.  If Peppers was not injured, as was rumored all season, then something truly alarming has happened to him.  If he doesn’t bounce back next season, it might be time to hit the panic button.
