Panthers’ Mini-Camp

May 4, 2007

The Carolina Panthers’ mini-camp starts today; a requirement of all new drafted player. The three day camp might be able to answer a few questions. One particular arising in the absence of starting line receiver Keyshawn Johnson: who will take his place?

Drew Carter is about to begin his fourth year as a Panthers wide receiver alongside four year wide receiver Keary Colbert, but both will be contending new talent Dwayne Jarrett when it comes to the starting lineup. Carter and Colbert will be receiving the most snaps from quarterback Jake Delhomme over the next three days, but many seem to think there is a big possibility quarterback David Carr might be a starter sooner than he thinks.

Mike Minter along with Deke Cooper and Nate Salley will be running safety for the next three days while the Panthers scout starters. Minter restructured his salary to afford a few new safeties, but known have been signed. Stay tuned for all the latest Panther news and get your tickets at StubHub.com.

Caught in the Draft

May 2, 2007

Carolina Panthers let receiver Keyshawn Johnson go not 48 hours after the draft and their selection of new wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett.  How ironic that Johnson would be analyzing the draft over the weekend for ESPN and compared Jarrett, who was number 45 overall, to a younger version of himself. The Panthers also chose Miami, OH receiver Ryne Robinson who may be used as a punt returner in round four.

Panthers’ coach John Fox was quoted, “We appreciated the contribution of Keyshawn in his season with the Panthers.  He brought us high production, but at this time, we are in a situation in which we have a number of young receivers and thought this was the right time to make the decision.”  Johnson should not have a problem getting picked up by a team with his record.  Watch for him this coming season by getting your game day tickets on StubHub.com.
